Jamal Elderdisawi , the
Public relation and information manger in GEDCo has
said that stopping the Gaza Power Plant from
operation due to an Israeli decision to stop pumping
the fuel into Gaza Strip , deepens the electricity
shortage crisis the which GEDCo and the citizens
suffer from years ago, he emphasized that the
shortage of electricity exited even before the
Israeli air strike on the power plant the time it
was producing 90 MW / per hour, this amount reduced
to 50 MW / per hour as the power plant has been
partially fixed after the strike , the repairing
work has not been completed due to the closures
imposed on Gaza Strip. He stated that the Gaza Strip
demand for electricity is 250 MW in order to reach
stable and continuous supplying service , the
stoppage of the power plant only leaves 187 MW on
the electrical network which forces GEDCo to do load
shedding this leaves large areas with long hours of
electricity cut exceeds 8 hours daily. He warned
that this will have devastating effect on the most
of the basic services which the daily public life
are based on, he emphasized on the danger of
terminating the work of hospitals , water supply and
swage system which will trigger environmental and
humanitarian crisis. He expected if the crisis
extended to weeks , sewage plants will find the only
available alternative is to pump the dirty water
into the sea waters, which will lead to serious
environmental pollution may not be only on the
shores of Gaza. In the context of the comparison
between the current expected crisis compared with
what had happened for the sector last year, he said
that the current crisis is more serious and severe
than the previous crisis in terms of the expected
results, noting that the crisis in the past came
under the fuel availability in Gaza Strip, which
enabled GEDCo at the time to operate public
generators supporting the electrical network and
besides operate the private generators in the
buildings, public institutions and services, and
leaving network electricity to the residential areas
under agreed upon program agreed with those
institutions , however in the current situation,
GEDCo will face the crisis without the availability
of fuel. |
